Dramatic Rescue Video of Two Elephants
Video Captures the Dramatic Rescue Of An Adult Elephant Along With Her Baby who Fell Into a Canal located in Sri Lanka
Villagers aided by The Department of Wildlife conservation arrived on the scene to discover the two elephants standing in the rushing water and unable to escape due to the steep walls.
The rescuers immediately went to work and were able to maneuver the two elephants into an area that afforded them a chance to escape from. The baby elephant was the first to be rescued and has since been released into the Muthu Wella forest reserve. |
As the video below shows the first rescue attempt at rescuing the adult elephant did not go as smoothly as it had with the baby. After prodding the elephant into position, conservation workers using underwater fireworks had hoped the harmless, but noisy blasts would scare the elephant into leaving the channel, but it failed due to the cement inclined to be too steep for the much heavier adult elephant to climb.
The next attempt was called off after one of the wildlife conservation department workers had been bitten by a snake and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
The rescue workers having prodded the adult elephant further downstream into an area the had less of an incline, once again detonated the underwater fireworks
This time the video shows the scare tactic had much better results when the adult elephant was finally able to drag itself out of the water and into the safety of the surrounding woodland and bring the end to an ordeal that lasted almost 24 hours in total.
